COLOMBO (News 1st); The new draft containing regulations for obtaining medical certificates required for issuing driving licences has been sent to the Attorney General’s Department.
Chairman of the National Transport Medical Institute, Professor Clifford Perera, stated that the draft clearly outlines the specific medical examination standards that must be followed when issuing these certificates.
A range of detailed medical criteria will be considered when issuing medical certificates for driving licences.
Vision, as well as blood sugar and cholesterol levels, are among the key factors to be examined.
The new draft, which includes clearly defined examination standards, will be gazetted once approval is received from the Attorney General.
Although regulations related to the issuance of driving licences already exist, this is the first time a draft has been prepared containing all regulations specifically applicable to issuing the required medical certificates.
