Lorry Smuggling Cattle Shot At by Police During High-Speed Chase

COLOMBO (News 1st); Police have opened fire at a lorry that ignored orders to stop in the Ambalangoda area.

Police said they had received information that a lorry transporting cattle illegally was coming from Weeraketiya.

Accordingly, around 3.30 a.m. today, officers signalled the lorry to stop at the Ambalangoda - Elpitiya junction, but the driver ignored the order and continued to flee. As a result, officers from the Ambalangoda Police Rapid Strike Force pursued the vehicle, opened fire, and managed to seize the lorry at the Wanadoowa junction.

Upon inspection, police discovered 14 cattle that were being transported illegally.

Police further stated that the driver of the lorry had fled the scene, while two individuals who were inside the vehicle were arrested.
