COLOMBO (News 1st); A sum of Rs. 1.9 billion has been allocated from the Presidential Fund for schoolchildren across all districts affected by the Ditwah cyclone.
According to the President's Media Division, the Presidential Fund has set aside Rs. 1.9 billion to provide a Rs. 10,000 grant for schoolchildren in all cyclone‑affected districts.
All necessary allocations have now been forwarded by the respective District Secretaries to the Divisional Secretaries.
To ensure the continuation of education for children in the affected districts, the government had taken steps to provide Rs. 25,000 per student, of which Rs. 15,000 will be provided by the Treasury and Rs. 10,000 by the Presidential Fund.
The President's Media Division states that the Rs. 10,000 grant provided by the Presidential Fund for schoolchildren in the districts of Ampara, Hambantota, Polonnaruwa, Monaragala, Mannar, and Vavuniya has already been fully disbursed.
The statement further notes that the financial assistance for schoolchildren in the remaining districts will also be released promptly.
