10,455 Child Abuse Complaints Received in 2025

COLOMBO (News 1st): The National Child Protection Authority has reported that 79 teenage pregnancies were recorded during the year 2025.

In its annual report on child abuse and related issues, the authority said nine child marriages and three abortions were also reported.

There were 150 incidents of violence against children online, while 116 cases involved children in drug-related offenses.

In addition, 54 incidents of domestic violence and 20 attempts of suicide involving children were reported during the year.

Overall, the National Child Protection Authority received 10,455 complaints related to child abuse.

According to the Authority, 1,941 of these cases were found to fall outside its direct jurisdiction.
