COLOMBO (News1st): The case filed against former President Ranil Wickremesinghe under the Public Property Act is scheduled to be called today at the Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court.
The complaint alleges that public funds were misused during Wickremesinghe's presidency to fund a trip to London.
The purpose of the travel was to attend a graduation ceremony for his wife, Professor Maithree Wickremesinghe.
The former President appeared before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to provide a statement and subsequently he was remanded until August 26, 2025.
After considering medical reports submitted, Fort Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura ordered his release on three personal sureties of Rs. 5 million each. The case was then adjourned to October 29, 2025.
During the hearing of the case on the 29th of October the Magistrate directed the police to conclude the relevant investigations by January 28, 2026.
