COLOMBO (News 1st); The trade union action launched by the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) continued for the second consecutive day today (27).
The GMOA stated that doctors have withdrawn from five specific services, while continuing to perform all other duties.
Despite the ongoing trade union action, our correspondents report that daily operations at several hospitals across the island, including the National Hospital Colombo, are functioning as normal.
The Executive Committee of the Government Medical Officers’ Association has decided on the following measures as part of the trade union action:
Refraining from prescribing medicines that must be purchased externally
Refraining from recommending laboratory tests at external laboratories
Refraining from initiating new units within the hospital system without prior approval by doctors
Refraining from participating in health camps and outreach clinics
Withdrawing from services if an assisting officer is not available during patient examination
