CID to Investigate Seizure of Mobile Phones from High-Profile Prison Ward

COLOMBO (News1st): The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) will carry out investigations in relation to the discovery of smart phones and accessories discovered in a Welikada Prison ward housing several former ministers.

The seized items are scheduled to be handed over to the CID within the next two days.

The discovery was made during a special search operation conducted within the prison premises. 

According to the Department of Prisons, the ward in question currently holds former ministers including Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Nalin Fernando, S.M. Ranjith and Duminda Silva. 

The raid uncovered a variety of prohibited electronic devices, including Smartphones, Phone chargers and Related mobile accessories.

The Department of Prisons said that the devices have been taken into police custody and that strict investigations are underway on the matter.
