COLOMBO (News 1st) - Police have uncovered a racket involved in selling stolen three-wheelers using forged documents, following an investigation launched by the Mirihana Police.
Two suspects were initially arrested by the Nugegoda Divisional Crime Investigation Unit based on a tip-off regarding the theft of a three-wheeler.
Further information obtained from the suspects led to the arrest of another individual and the recovery of the stolen three-wheeler in Kuruwita.
During an extensive investigation, police recovered 10 additional three-wheelers allegedly stolen by the suspects from several locations, including Yatiyanthota, Balangoda, Badulla, and Battaramulla.
Investigations revealed that the suspects had altered the colour, chassis numbers, and engine numbers of the three-wheelers, and had produced fake number plates and forged documents to sell them.
The suspects, aged 30, 32, and 46, are residents of Kelaniya, Ambalantota, and Parakaduwa.
