Boossa Prison Guards Released on Bail Following Assault on Assistant Superintendent

COLOMBO (News 1st); Four prison guards arrested for allegedly aiding and abetting two inmates in an assault on the Assistant Superintendent of the Boossa Prison have been released on bail.

Police say the suspects were released on two personal sureties of Rs. 200,000 each after they were produced before the Galle Magistrate.

The assault occurred on the 7th of last month during a confrontation between prison officials and two inmates held in the prison's Special Section.

During the incident, the two inmates reportedly attacked the Assistant Superintendent.

Police further revealed that 55 CCTV cameras were also damaged during the unrest.

Previously, another prison guard was arrested in connection with the same incident and was also subsequently released on bail.

Meanwhile, the Department of Prisons has launched a special investigation into the incident.
