Fatal Hit-and-Run in Ambalantota: Police Constable Killed

COLOMBO (News 1st); A 43-year-old police constable was killed in the early hours of this morning near Girihandu Viharaya, Ambalantota, after being run over by a vehicle that defied orders to stop. 

The officer, a father of two from Weeriyagama, Suriyawewa, was attached to the Ambalantota Police and was due to transfer to the Embilipitiya Police.

The incident occurred when a car travelling from Tangalle to Katharagama ignored orders from a night patrol team and drove directly into the officers. 

A Civil Security Department (CSD) officer was also injured in the crash and is currently receiving treatment at Ambalantota Hospital.

While the driver remains at large, police have recovered the abandoned vehicle and arrested one passenger, who was found to be intoxicated.
