Matugama PS Secretary Hospitalized After Chairman’s Alleged Assault

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Secretary of the Matugama Pradeshiya Sabha has been hospitalized following an alleged assault by the Chairman of the council, who represents the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB).

According to reports, the Secretary has also lodged a formal complaint with the Matugama Police regarding the incident.

Police confirmed that six statements have been recorded so far in connection with the case.

The incident occurred while the Secretary was on duty at the council office. 

It is alleged that the Chairman arrived, verbally threatened her, and struck the table with a heavy object placed on the desk to prevent files from being blown away, which in turn struck her on the shoulder.

The assault reportedly took place after a heated argument over a development project worth approximately Rs. 20 million.
