COLOMBO (News 1st): The water levels of Mahaweli River remain high at Manampitiya while water levels of the Malwathu Oya remain high at Thanthirimale.

The Department of Irrigation says that although water levels remain high, there is no flood risk in these areas.

However, the Department advises the public to remain vigilant and stay alert on the latest announcements issued by officials.

Currently, 36 major reservoirs and 52 medium-scale reservoirs are continuing to spill.

Meanwhile, the 'Red'/ Level 3 landslide evacuation notices issued for several Divisional Secretariat divisions in the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts remain in effect.

The Department of Meteorology says that several spells of showers can be expected in the Eastern, Uva, and Central provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa and Hambantota districts.

Showers or thundershowers may occur during the afternoon in the Sabaragamuwa province and the Galle, Matara, and Kalutara districts.

Fairly strong winds of approximately 40 kmph are expected at times over the eastern slopes of the central hills, and in the Northern, Eastern, North-Central, and North-Western provinces, as well as the Hambantota and Monaragala districts.

The Department of Meteorology further advised the general public to take necessary precautions to protect from lightning hazards.
