COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka has decided to seek international assistance to restore and rebuild infrastructure damaged by recent disasters.
The decision was taken during a high-level discussion chaired by the Secretary to the President, with participation from ministry secretaries and heads of state institutions.
According to Prabath Chandrakeerthi, Commissioner General of Essential Services, a comprehensive report will be prepared outlining the priority sectors requiring reconstruction and the estimated costs involved.
This report will serve as the basis for engaging foreign governments and agencies for support.
“Currently, several essential services have been severely affected—whether highways, railway systems, irrigation networks, or other critical infrastructure. We plan to compile these into projects, prioritize them, and seek necessary intervention from foreign countries. All ministries have been informed to finalize their priority projects promptly. While temporary repairs have been carried out, we need permanent solutions. Once prioritized, these projects will be presented through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to directly involve other nations in their completion,” he explained.
