COLOMBO (News 1st); The tense hours over Sri Lankan skies ended in relief when a Turkish Airlines flight bound for Istanbul, landed safely at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) at 00:28 hrs after developing a technical issue with its landing gear earlier in the night.
The aircraft had circled above Colombo and Chilaw to burn excess fuel before attempting its emergency return.
Emergency services, which had been on standby along the runway, stood down after the successful touchdown. Officials reiterated that other flight operations at BIA were not disrupted during the ordeal.
