COLOMBO (News 1st); The Call of Duty franchise is gearing up for its boldest transformation yet.
A trusted industry insider has dropped explosive claims about the 2027 installment, and if true, fans are in for a completely new experience.
According to the leak, the upcoming title—developed by Sledgehammer Games—will introduce an entirely new sub-series, breaking away from the long-standing dominance of Modern Warfare and Black Ops.
The game is rumored to feature no Zombies mode, incorporate Treyarch’s omnimovement system, and eliminate tactical sprint, signaling a dramatic shift in gameplay philosophy.
This revelation comes just weeks after Activision announced a major overhaul of its release strategy.
The publisher confirmed it will no longer alternate between Modern Warfare and Black Ops annually, citing the need to deliver “absolutely unique experiences” each year.
The last time fans saw a new sub-series was in 2021 with Call of Duty: Vanguard—and now, after four years, the drought may finally end.
On November 14, Treyarch launched Black Ops 7, hoping to ride the wave of success from Black Ops 6, which shattered records in 2024 as the biggest Call of Duty launch ever. But the magic didn’t last.
Analysts speculate that Black Ops 7 has underperformed, despite Treyarch’s efforts to appease fans with classic three-lane maps, toned-down skins, and the removal of skill-based matchmaking. The verdict? Franchise fatigue is real.
With community interest at an all-time low, Activision’s pivot couldn’t come sooner. And the 2027 entry appears to be the cornerstone of this reinvention.
The insider, known as TheGhostOfHope, claims the new game will feature original characters and a setting rooted in the late 1990s to early 2000s—a nostalgic era for many gamers.
Multiplayer will retain the omnimovement system introduced in Black Ops 6 and 7, but tactical sprint is reportedly gone, hinting at a more grounded combat style.
Perhaps the most shocking detail? No Zombies mode. While Zombies has been a beloved staple for years, appearing in five of the last six titles, Sledgehammer is allegedly skipping it in favor of the popular “Get High” mode. The decision may stem from Activision’s desire to avoid burning out Treyarch after consecutive Black Ops releases.
Don’t expect the shake-up to start next year. Another leak suggests 2026 will bring Modern Warfare 4, developed by Infinity Ward. However, the insider warns fans to temper expectations, calling it “a complete copy” of Modern Warfare 2 (2022) with minor tweaks—such as fewer ADS penalties and no perk-charging system.
If these leaks hold true, 2027 could mark the beginning of a new era for Call of Duty—one that breaks free from the franchise’s familiar formula and dares to reinvent itself.
