Railway Reconstruction To Cost USD $400 Million

COLOMBO (News 1st): according to Commissioner General of Essential Services Prabhat Chandrakeerthy, the estimated cost for the reconstruction of railway lines destroyed by the recent disaster is expected to cost approximately USD 400 million.

He said the restoration of all affected railway lines would take time due to the scale of the damage.

The Commissioner added, that around 90 percent of the 236 health institutions affected by the disaster have now been restored.

He noted that the Spring Valley and Kandegedara hospitals have been relocated to alternative locations, while the Mahiyanganaya and Chilaw hospitals, which were among the most severely affected, have now been restored to normal operations.

However, he added that significant medical equipment, including CT scanners, sustained severe damage as a result of the disaster.
