CID Interrogation Leads to Recovery of Rs. 1.5 Million in Suspected Crime Cash

COLOMBO (News 1st); Two individuals suspected of aiding and abetting organized criminals have been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) during an operation in Maradana. The suspects were apprehended in possession of live ammunition and cash.

The suspects were identified as a 32-year-old male from Meegoda and a 25-year-old female from Embilipitiya.

During an inspection of a private lodge in Colombo 10 where the pair were temporarily residing, CID officials discovered 15 live rounds of 9mm ammunition concealed inside a laptop bag.

Following an interrogation, police searched a house in the Thunkama area of Kuttigala. There, officials recovered Rs. 1,534,000 in cash, which is suspected to have been acquired through drug trafficking or other organized criminal activities.

The police confirmed that both suspects are currently being detained and interrogated by the CID under a 72-hour detention order.
