National-Level Disaster Management Committee To Meet Tomorrow; Foreign Aid To Be Distributed Under Defence Ministry Supervision

COLOMBO (News 1st): The national-level Disaster Management committee appointed by the President will convene for a second consecutive day tomorrow.

The eight-member committee, chaired by Deputy Minister of Defence Retired Major General Aruna Jayasekara, was appointed by the President to ensure the proper coordination and distribution of foreign aid provided to people affected by the disaster.

Deputy Minister Jayasekara said that the public and diplomatic missions will be informed about the procedures for providing and distributing relief assistance.

According to the Deputy Minister, the committee aims to ensure that foreign aid and donations are distributed through a properly managed process under the supervision and guidance of the Ministry of Defence, minimizing discrepancies and preventing wastage.

Deputy Minister Jayasekara confirmed that the Disaster Management Centre and the National Disaster Relief Services Centre are working in collaboration with the committee for this purpose.

He added that relief distribution will be carried out based on requests and information received from the relevant Divisional and District Secretariats, as well as Grama Niladhari Officers in the affected areas.
