COLOMBO (News 1st); In the wake of Cyclone Ditwah’s devastation, a critical intervention is underway to restore safe drinking water to rural communities.

At the request of the National Department for Rural Water, UNICEF has delivered nearly 25,000 kilograms of chlorine for water purification—enough to support 500,000 families.

This initial consignment marks a vital step in helping districts hardest hit by the cyclone regain access to clean water and prevent the outbreak of waterborne diseases.

The chlorine will be distributed across rural areas where infrastructure damage has left thousands vulnerable to unsafe water sources.

UNICEF, working hand-in-hand with the government, is scaling up efforts to expand safe water access and strengthen disease prevention measures.
