Worst Flood in Recent Sri Lankan History Could Hit Within 24 Hours!

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka’s Irrigation Department has sounded a critical flood warning for low-lying areas along the Kelani River Valley, citing conditions that could lead to one of the most severe floods in recent history within the next 24 hours.

Heavy rainfall continues to pound multiple catchment areas of the Kelani River Basin, while reservoirs in the upper catchment are discharging large volumes of water.

Combined with rising river levels recorded at gauging stations, experts warn of a high-risk flood situation that could surpass previous disasters.

Residents in vulnerable zones are strongly urged to act immediately, moving to the safest possible locations without delay.

Disaster Management authorities have been instructed to treat this as a top-priority emergency and deploy all necessary resources for evacuation and relief.
