COLOMBO (News 1st); Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Private Limited (AASL) has assured the public that Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) remains operational despite severe storm conditions triggered by Cyclone Ditwah, which has caused major disruptions to air travel.
Since 22:55 hrs yesterday (27 Nov), 15 inbound flights have been diverted to alternative airports, including Mattala (MRIA), Trivandrum, and Cochin, due to unsafe landing conditions at BIA.
Additionally, 16 flights have been delayed, while one scheduled flight from Jaffna International Airport was cancelled owing to adverse weather.
Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport is on high alert and has already accommodated six diverted flights.
AASL emphasized that safety remains the top priority, with continuous coordination between airport management, air traffic control, and airline partners to minimize inconvenience.
Passengers scheduled to travel today and tomorrow are strongly advised to contact their airlines before heading to the airport.
