Navy Boats, Air Force Helicopters on Standby as Heavy Rains Threaten Island

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Navy has deployed 126 rapid disaster relief teams across the island, In a decisive move to strengthen emergency preparedness during the prevailing wet weather conditions,

These teams are strategically positioned at naval camps to ensure swift response in case of floods or other natural calamities.

Navy Spokesperson Commander Buddhika Sampath confirmed that nearly 100 boats have been allocated for rescue and relief operations, enabling teams to reach affected communities without delay.

Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Air Force has also stepped up its readiness.

Five Bell 212 helicopters have been stationed at Weerawila and Ratmalana air bases, prepared to assist in aerial rescue missions and emergency supply drops.

Air Force Spokesperson Group Captain Eranda Geeganage emphasized that these aircraft are on standby to respond to any disaster situation at a moment’s notice.
