Red Alert: Landslide Evacuation Warnings Issued for Several Areas

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Level Three Red Alert Landslide Evacuation Warning has been issued for the Haguranketha and Walapane Divisional Secretariat Divisions in the Nuwara Eliya District, and the Ududumbara Divisional Secretariat Division in the Kandy District, following continuous heavy rainfall.

The National Building Research Organization urges residents in landslide-prone areas to evacuate immediately as advised.

Meanwhile, landslide alerts remain in effect for 12 districts under level one and level two. 

Level Two warnings have been issued for several Divisional Secretariat Divisions in Badulla, Galle, Kandy, Kegalle, Matara and Ratnapura.

Level One warnings are in place for parts of Colombo, Badulla, Kalutara, Kandy, Kegalle, Kurunegala, Matale, Matara, Nuwara Eliya and Ratnapura.

The Department of Meteorology forecasts very heavy rainfall exceeding 150 mm in the Eastern, Central and Uva Provinces and the Polonnaruwa District today, while other areas could see rainfall above 100 mm.
