Second Reading Vote on 2026 Budget Today

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka’s Parliament is set for a decisive moment this evening as the second reading vote on the 2026 Budget takes place at 6:00 PM, according to the Department of Parliamentary Communications.

The budget, presented on November 7 by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, has been under debate for the past six days, marking one of the most closely watched fiscal discussions in recent years. 

Today’s vote will determine whether the budget advances to the committee stage for detailed scrutiny.

The committee stage debate is scheduled to begin tomorrow and will run for 17 days, concluding on December 5, when the third reading vote will be held at 6:00 PM.

This budget is seen as a critical blueprint for economic recovery and structural reforms.
