COLOMBO (News 1st): Six Sri Lankan Sea Marshals who had been detained by the Eritrean Government, have returned to the island today.
They were taken into custody on November 7 2024, when a European vessel, on which they were serving under the command of an Azerbaijani captain, entered Eritrean territorial waters.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said their release was secured through the intervention of Minister Vijitha Herath, with the Sri Lankan Embassy in Cairo facilitating the necessary diplomatic coordination.
