COLOMBO (News 1st); Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building a resilient and competitive industrial base, describing it as a “national necessity” for sustainable economic growth.

The Prime Minister stressed that the strength of Sri Lanka’s industries directly impacts job creation, import reduction, and long-term economic stability.

“Sri Lanka has many SMEs with strong potential, and they must be supported to realize it,” she said, emphasizing the need for access to finance, technology, and skills development.

“The success of local entrepreneurs ultimately strengthens the foundation of our national economy,” Amarasuriya noted.

She also called for inclusive pathways to ensure full participation in the industrial sector, highlighting the under-recognized role of women in production, management, innovation, and design.

“Under the National People’s Power Government, we are committed to advancing women’s economic participation through concrete policies and institutional reforms,” she added.
