Seven Arrested After 5-Year-Old Drowns in Nugegoda

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police have arrested seven individuals, including the Assistant Principal of a preschool, following the tragic drowning of a five-year-old child in a hotel swimming pool on Stanley Thilakaratne Mawatha, Nugegoda.

The incident occurred Wednesday (8) morning when a group of children, accompanied by teachers and instructors, were engaged in swimming activities at the hotel pool. 

Despite supervision, the child was found submerged and was rushed to Kalubowila Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on admission.

A post-mortem examination was conducted by the Judicial Medical Officer of Kalubowila Hospital, who returned an open verdict on the cause of death.

Those arrested include:

The Assistant Principal of the preschool,
The Sports Coordinator,
Two teachers responsible for the children,
A preschool attendant, and
Two swimming instructors.
