COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government has instructed the newly appointed administrations of local authorities to promptly report all incidents of fraud and corruption that have occurred in recent times.
State Minister Ruwan Senarath revealed that reports indicate widespread misuse of land and property as well as irregular spending of public funds on various projects across several local bodies.
He confirmed that steps are being taken to document all such fraudulent activities.
“Investigations will commence immediately based on the financial losses caused to the government,” Senarath stated, adding that strict legal action will be taken against those responsible.
Highlighting the severity of the issue, the State Minister disclosed that over 120 vehicles belonging to the Ministry have gone missing, according to the 2024 audit report.
In some cases, even the official documentation for these vehicles is untraceable, prompting further inquiries.
Senarath emphasized that accountability will be enforced, and those found guilty of misappropriation or negligence will face severe penalties.
