Law and Ethics to Enter School Curriculum: PM

COLOMBO (News 1st); Prime Minister and Minister of Education Dr. Harini Amarasuriya announced in Parliament today that the government is taking steps to introduce Law and Ethics as part of the school curriculum.

The Prime Minister explained that civic education already includes a section on law, but plans are underway to dedicate a separate module on law for grades 6 to 8.

Dr. Amarasuriya further noted that at the GCE Ordinary Level, law could be introduced as an optional subject as part of broader education reforms.

“Through these reforms, we can introduce several new subjects, and law could be one of them. There is no objection to discussing this further,” she added.
