COLOMBO (News 1st); Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Training, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, emphasized that reducing disparities among schools and enhancing the quality of educational experiences for all children are central goals of the upcoming education reform agenda.

Speaking at a high-level meeting with education sector officials held at the Ministry of Education, Dr. Amarasuriya addressed long-standing challenges that have plagued the school system for decades.

She highlighted how structural inequalities between schools have contributed to a range of issues — from student stress and learning gaps to the pressures faced by teachers and principals.

“The competitive nature of our education system has created immense pressure on students, educators, and administrators alike. At the heart of these challenges lies the deep-rooted inequality among schools,” Dr. Amarasuriya stated.

“The current government is committed to addressing this imbalance through comprehensive reform.”

She further stressed that the success of this transformation depends not only on policy but also on the active participation of parents and citizens. “Despite the challenges, this is a journey we must undertake together as a nation,” she added.
