STF, Navy Probe Weapon Find in Weheragala

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Police Special Task Force (STF) conducted a special search operation inside the Yala Sanctuary near the Weheragala Reservoir in Kataragama, following the recent discovery of a stock of empty magazines and equipment in the reservoir.

Police said nothing suspicious was found during the STF search operations in the sanctuary.

Meanwhile, the Navy concluded its search operations in the Weheragala Reservoir yesterday. Three Navy search teams were deployed for the operation.

During the operation, authorities recovered 215 empty T56 magazines, 39 empty LMG drum magazines, 11 MPMG 200 magazines, 9 MPMG 100 magazines, 6 T81 magazines, and 100 empty 12.7mm anti-aircraft gun drums.

The recovered stock of items is scheduled to be produced before the Wellawaya Magistrate’s Court next Tuesday, police added.
