COLOMBO (News 1st); The Western Province Road Passenger Transport Authority has announced two major regulatory changes effective from October 1: mandatory ticket issuance for all private bus passengers and the resumption of passenger three-wheeler registration.
According to Authority officials, all passengers traveling on private buses within the province must obtain a valid ticket.
Failure to comply will result in fines for both passengers and conductors.
Currently, conductors who fail to issue tickets face a penalty of Rs.750 and mandatory training.
From October 1, passengers without tickets will also be fined Rs.100 plus double the fare, with plans to revise penalties further in the future.
The Authority also confirmed that registration and licensing of passenger three-wheelers will resume under the 2002 regulations.
These rules require all three-wheelers operating in passenger transport to be registered with the Authority and hold valid permits.
