Wattala Suspect Linked To Multiple Shootings

COLOMBO(News 1st); Police say that information on several crimes, including three shootings, was uncovered from a suspect arrested and questioned in Wattala under remand orders.

Investigations revealed that the suspect was the rider of the motorcycle involved in the July 3rd shooting in the Kandana Police Division, where one man was killed and two others were injured.

The suspect was also identified as the gunman in the August 7th shooting at a house in Kandana and the August 6th shooting at a house in Negombo.

Further inquiries revealed that the crimes had been carried out on the instructions of three organized crime and drug traffickers based overseas.

A motorcycle used in the incidents has been seized by investigators.

The suspect was initially arrested in the Elakanda area of Wattala on the 22nd with 10 grams and 200 milligrams of crystal methamphetamine (ice).

He is a 45-year-old resident of Mulleriyawa North.

The suspect was produced before the Welisara Magistrate’s Court on the 23rd and is being held under a seven-day detention order for questioning.
