COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police have recovered a significant cache of illegal firearms this year, as part of an intensified nationwide crackdown on organized crime and unlawful weapon possession.
According to official reports, 36 T-56 assault rifles linked to organized criminal networks have been seized so far in 2025.
Additionally, 30 more T-56 rifles, believed to have belonged to the now-defunct LTTE and other extremist groups, were discovered buried in the Jaffna region.
The police also confiscated 64 illegally held pistols, 46 revolvers, 40 shotguns, and 6 repeater rifles.
Authorities confirmed that continuous search operations are underway to locate and neutralize illegal weapons, which pose a serious threat to public safety and national security.
