COLOMBO( News 1st); The Appropriation Bill for the 2026 fiscal year was presented to Parliament today by Acting Minister of Finance, Professor Anil Jayantha Fernando.
According to the Appropriation bill, which the current government intends to submit as its second budget, total government expenditure for the year 2026 is projected at Rs. 4,434 billion.
The second reading of the Appropriation Bill for 2026, also known as the Budget Speech, has been scheduled for Friday, 7th of November.
Accordingly, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake will present the budget to Parliament in his capacity as Finance Minister.
The debate on the second reading is set to take place from 8th to 14th of November, with the vote on the second reading scheduled for 6:00 PM on Friday, 14th of November.
The committee stage of the debate on budget will begin on 15th of November, with thevote on the third reading of the budget planned for 6:00 PM on Friday, 5th of December.
According to the Appropriation Bill, the largest allocation has been made to the Ministry of Finance, amounting to Rs. 634 Billion.
The Ministry of Defence has been allocated with Rs. 455 Billion, while the Ministry of Health and Mass Media is allocated with Rs. 554 Billion.
The Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education has been allocated Rs. 301 Billion.
The Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local Government will receive Rs. 618 Billion, and the Ministry of Public Administration has been allocated Rs. 596 Billion.
