COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lankan police have discovered a fifth revolver and a T56 assault rifle hidden inside a lorry intercepted in Tangalle.
The vehicle had already yielded approximately 200 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (“ice”) and heroin, making it one of the largest drug and weapons seizures in recent months.
The discovery of additional firearms comes as part of an ongoing investigation that began earlier on Monday (22), when police found around 10 kilograms of suspected crystal methamphetamine inside a house in Seenimodara, Tangalle.
Authorities later discovered an additional 200 kilograms of a substance suspected to be crystal methamphetamine (“ice”) inside the same house in Seenimodara, Tangalle.
That search was prompted by the discovery of two bodies at the residence, while a third individual who had also been present was hospitalized but later passed away.
Investigations revealed that the property had recently changed ownership, with the new owner hiring three workers to construct a boundary wall.
Police reports indicate that the workers held an alcohol party at the house the previous night. Following the gathering, one worker fell ill and was taken to hospital. Acting on a tip-off from a relative of the hospitalized individual, police inspected the residence and uncovered the two bodies.
Subsequent searches of the lorry linked to the property led to the seizure of narcotics and now five revolvers and a military-grade T56 rifle.
