Meetiyagoda Drive-by Shooting Linked To Gang War

COLOMBO (News 1st); A quiet afternoon in Malawenna, Meetiyagoda turned violent on Monday (1) as gunshots rang out in what police now confirm was a clash between organized criminal gangs.

The victim, a 29-year-old resident of Seenigama, was injured in the attack and is currently receiving medical treatment.

Two assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on a group traveling in a car, targeting the victim directly.

At the time of the shooting, five individuals were inside the vehicle.

Police have arrested a 36-year-old suspect in connection with the incident and recovered a T-56 assault rifle, believed to have been used in the attack.
