COLOMBO (News 1st); Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala announced that steps are underway to repatriate several high-profile organized crime suspects, including Kehelbaddara Padme, who were recently arrested in Indonesia. The suspects were apprehended during a seven-day joint operation involving Sri Lanka Police, CID, Indonesian Police, and Interpol.

In a bold move to accelerate justice, the government has also decided to establish a special court dedicated to fast-tracking cases against organized crime figures. “We are committed to ensuring swift legal action against those who have terrorized our communities,” Minister Wijepala stated.

The crackdown is part of the National People's Power (NPP) government’s broader initiative to restore the rule of law and eliminate the long-standing political protection enjoyed by criminal networks. “There is no political interference in law enforcement anymore,” said Inspector General of Police, reinforcing the government's stance.
