Kalutara Municipal Councilor Arrested for Assaulting Police Officer at Protest

COLOMBO (News 1st); A suspect who assaulted and injured a police officer during a protest in close to the Fort Magistrate's Court on the 26th of August 2025 has been arrested in Kalutara.

The suspect is a member of the Kalutara Municipal Council.

During the protest, which was held in support of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, the suspect reportedly acted in a riotous manner and struck a police sergeant with a water bottle. 

The injured officer is attached to the Kelaniya Police Station.

The suspect is expected to be handed over to the Kompannavidiya Police for further investigation.
