COLOMBO (News 1st); Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has strongly denied media claims that she visited former President Ranil Wickremesinghe in hospital, describing the reports as unfounded and urging those responsible to present evidence.
The Prime Minister, addressing the media, stated that the matter had already been addressed by her office.
She emphasized that such claims must be substantiated with credible proof, such as eyewitness accounts or photographs, and criticized the practice of fabricating news without verification.
Dr. Amarasuriya pointed out that, as Prime Minister, her movements are not without scrutiny and that it would be impossible for her to make such a visit in secret. She challenged the journalist who initially reported the claim to publicly prove its validity.
Responding to questions about whether the legal proceedings involving Wickremesinghe were politically motivated, the Prime Minister reiterated that the matter is part of an ongoing judicial process.
She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law without political interference, noting that all relevant institutions have been granted full independence to carry out their duties.
Addressing speculation about a potential political alliance with Wickremesinghe, Dr. Amarasuriya dismissed the rumors as baseless fiction.
