COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Posts says it is prepared to take disciplinary action against postal workers who continue to stay away from duties as part of the ongoing strike.
Postmaster General Ruwan Sathkumara says that the Ministry of Health and Mass Media has also been informed of the steps to be taken in this regard.
Postal workers launched the strike citing the cancellation of their approved leave as one of the key reasons.
Convener of the Joint Postal Trade Union Alliance, Chinthaka Bandara, says that the strike will not be called off until a proper solution is provided to their grievances.
The strike is being carried out based on 19 demands, which include the payment of overtime allowances and the implementation of a fingerprint-based attendance system.
