COLOMBO (News 1st); Allegations of serious misconduct have emerged in Parliament regarding the deletion of critical data from the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA), with MPs questioning whether key figures behind the pharmaceutical mafia have been identified.
MP Nalin Bandara of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya raised concerns about the erasure of data and the potential involvement of high-level individuals in orchestrating the alleged cover-up. He called for clarity on whether the true masterminds behind the pharmaceutical racket have been exposed.
Responding to the inquiry, Deputy Health Minister Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni confirmed that two individuals from Epic Lanka were arrested in connection with the incident. The arrests followed a complaint filed by the NMRA on 22 July 2021, and the case is currently under judicial review at the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.
Dr. Wijemuni added that Assistant Engineer Don Pramod Dilupa Ramnayake had provided a written statement admitting responsibility for the data deletion. Digital forensic analysis is ongoing, with devices sent to the Government Analyst’s Department and Moratuwa University for expert review. Final reports are still pending.
