COLOMBO (News 1st); Two individuals were injured in a shooting incident that occurred near the Peliyagoda fish market earlier this morning (19), according to police reports.
The shooting took place when a fish market employee was traveling on a motorcycle and was targeted by an unidentified gunman.
The victim, a 45-year-old resident of Colombo 15, sustained injuries and was rushed to the National Hospital for treatment.
Police further confirmed that a second individual, who was traveling along the same road at the time of the incident, was also injured and has been hospitalized.
Investigators suspect that a T-56 assault rifle was used in the attack.
Preliminary findings suggest the shooting may be linked to a long-standing conflict between two organized criminal gangs, with the fish market employee believed to have been deliberately targeted.
Multiple police teams have launched investigations into the incident, and further details are expected as inquiries progress.
