Joint Mechanism To Enhance Public Transport Services

COLOMBO (News 1st): Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation Bimal Rathnayake says that a joint mechanism will be developed to build a safe and efficient public transport service.

The Minister made this statement at the progress review meeting of the heads of transport service providers and operators under the Ministry.

The Minister highlighted the importance of developing an institutional mechanism to ensure a safe, efficient, and regular transport service in the country by integrating modern technology.

This initiative is also part of the government’s digitalization program.

Discussions also focused on setting a specific timeframe for the digitalization process in the transport sector, developing a rapid response system for public complaints, streamlining electronic payments, establishing bus companies, introducing new buses, improving the tender process, and integrating GPS and AI technology.
