COLOMBO (News 1st): Eight individuals, including the wife of a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police assigned to the Colombo region, have been remanded until August 26th in connection with an alleged treasure hunting operation.
The suspects were presented before the Anuradhapura Magistrate’s Court following their arrest at a sacred site in Timbirigaskadawala, Srawasthipura, where they were reportedly engaged in illegal excavation activities early Thursday (14) morning.
According to police, the arrests were made based on a tip-off received regarding unauthorized digging at the temple premises.
Several tools believed to have been used for the excavation were also seized during the operation.
