COLOMBO (News 1st): The Paddy Marketing Board will commence paddy purchasing operations in the Polonnaruwa district starting today, as part of the Yala season procurement program.
Chairman of the Board, Manjula Pinnalanda stated that the buying process was delayed due to setbacks in the harvesting schedule in the area.
With harvesting now underway, paddy will be purchased at around 15 storage facilities across Polonnaruwa.
Islandwide, there are approximately 300 paddy storage centers under the Paddy Marketing Board.
Out of these, 115 facilities have already begun purchasing Yala season harvests.
According to the Board, a total of 13,100 metric tons of paddy have been purchased across the country so far during the current season.
