Doctor Caught with 9mm Ammo at Katunayake Airport

COLOMBO (News 1st); A medical professional was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake yesterday (4) after authorities discovered a magazine compatible with a 9mm pistol and eight rounds of ammunition in his luggage.

According to police, the arrest took place at the airport’s arrival terminal following a routine security inspection. 

The suspect was found in possession of the items while attempting to enter the high-security zone of the airport.

The magazine and ammunition were recovered from the doctor's travel bag. 

Authorities emphasized that carrying firearms or related components into restricted areas of the airport is strictly prohibited under Sri Lankan law.

The suspect is expected to be produced before court, and further investigations are underway.
