COLOMBO (News 1st); Eleven Indian nationals, including three women, have been ordered to be deported from Sri Lanka after being arrested in Akuregoda for allegedly operating an online gambling ring.
The suspects were presented before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court today (9), where the court imposed a fine of Rs. 100,000 per individual and issued the deportation order.
The arrests were made on August 4, following an intelligence tip-off received by the Sri Lanka Air Force Intelligence Unit.
The group was found residing in a rented house in Akuregoda, along with several electronic devices including laptops and accessories, believed to have been used in the illegal operation.
Authorities suspect the individuals were engaged in unauthorized online betting activities.
