COLOMBO (News 1st); A serious investigation has been launched following an alleged death threat made via phone by a suspected organized crime leader known as Kehelbaddara Padme to Chief Inspector Linton Silva, the Officer-in-Charge of the Western Province (North) Crimes Division.
The incident came to light after the arrest of a 39-year-old suspect named Gampaha Deva, believed to be a close associate of Padme.
He was apprehended on Sunday (3) at the Bandaranaike International Airport by the Criminal Investigation Unit while reportedly attempting to travel to Thailand—possibly to meet Padme, according to police sources.
Authorities revealed that Deva had previously met Padme in Russia and Thailand.
Following his arrest, he was handed over to the Western Province (North) Crimes Division, which then conducted a search operation at a hotel premises in Kehlebaddara, Minuwangoda.
During the raid, police recovered nine rounds of T-56 ammunition and 440 grams of heroin.
