Police Bail for Ex-Youth Leader Amid Heated District Election

COLOMBO (News 1st); Poorna Sathyajith Alahakoon, the former Vice Chairman of the Beruwala Youth Council, has been released on police bail following his arrest in connection with a tense incident during the Kalutara District Youth Society elections.

Alahakoon was taken into custody by Kalutara South Police yesterday (3) afternoon after a heated situation arose at the Kalutara District Secretariat Auditorium, where the National Youth Services Council was conducting the district-level youth elections.

He was released later that night.

The incident has sparked criticism from youth activists and legal representatives, who allege political interference in the youth election process. Speaking to the media, Attorney-at-Law Nirashan Withanage accused certain political figures of attempting to manipulate youth structures for partisan gain.
